To formally commence the school year, as a whole school community, staff and students of Cerdon gathered at Our Lady of Victories Horsley Park to celebrate our opening school Mass.
Once again we were fortunate to have Fr Peter Strohmayer of St Margaret Mary’s Merrylands celebrate this occasion that allowed us to complete a number of functions.
Firstly, our Eucharistic celebration provided the perfect opportunity to publicise our Formation intention for 2018.
Throughout last year, our theme was ‘From Dreams to Action’. We were called to be people who acted beyond our dreams and who tirelessly worked to turn our dreams into reality. Our theme to guide us in 2018 is ‘Making a difference while spreading Joy’. This theme brings together the desire of Pope Francis for the Year of Youth announced by the Catholic Church.
In the words of Pope Francis:
My friends, Jesus is the Lord of risk, he is the Lord of the eternal ‘more’. Jesus is not the Lord of comfort, security and ease. Following Jesus demands a good dose of courage, a readiness to trade in the sofa for a pair of walking shoes and to set out on new and uncharted paths. To blaze trails that open up new horizons capable for spreading joy, the joy that is born of God’s love and wells up in your hearts with every act of mercy.
Following our Mass, as a community we were able to commission our various school leaders who received badges to acknowledge their role that they were called to complete for 2018. Furthermore, there was time to publicly congratulate the high achievers of the HSC class of 2017.
A special thank you is extended to Fr Peter Strohmayer for his continued support of Cerdon College.
